When to come
When is the best time to come to Suriname? We have 4 different seasons which are explained below. Every season has its own pros and cons for herping. Do you have certain species you would like to see? Do not hesitate to contact us as some species are more active, or show special behaviour, in certain seasons.
1) Small rainy season: Early December - Late January

2) Small dry season: Late January – Late April
Amphibian activity: Average
Reptile activity: Average
Chance that rain will obstruct the travel plan and routes: Unlikely
Waterproof gear required: Sometimes
3) Large rainy season: Late April – Half August
Amphibian activity: Very high
Reptile activity: High

Waterproof gear required: Yes
4) Large dry season: Half August – Early December
Amphibian activity: Very Low (exept for some species e.g. Hypsiboas boans and Hypsiboas geographicus).
