Area and habitat description with typical species: This savanna is part of the upper-Coesewijne Nature Reserve. A 27.000 hectares large area with a diversity of habitats, such as swamps, savannas and dry highland forest. The Coesewijne river, is one of the last rivers in Suriname where the West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus) still occurs. In contrast with the zanderij savanna, this area has a ype of brown soil, rare for savannas. |
